Yes, kids can get bodywork too!
Select massage therapists at NPWC offer pediatric massage for kids seven and up.
Why massage?
Massage has proven to be beneficial for kids of all ages and can treat a variety of issues, including:
- Sleep disturbances
- Concussion symptoms (Cranio-sacral massage is especially effective)
- Sports injuries
- Eczema
- Autism, ADHD, and emotional dysregulation issues
- Anxiety
- Pain management
- Growing pains
- Alleviation of gastrointestinal issues and assistance with digestion
- Improved circulation
How does massage look different for children?
Children have different needs than adults, so we tailor our massage sessions to fit their specific needs. Overall, some basic things will be true:
- A parent or caregiver is required to be in the room for the duration of the session for ages 7-16
- Our intake process will be more detailed so we can learn about your child’s exact needs
- Massage will be gentler and with fewer strokes due to the delicate nature of children’s skin
- Children are welcome to remain in whatever clothes help them feel comfortable (e.g. shorts and a tank top) - we can work around clothing.
- There is more flexibility about how the bodywork occurs. For example, for fidgety kids, we may shorten the session or create movement breaks. For chatty kids, our therapists are excellent at building rapport with kiddos.
